Free Kung Fu Classes

Here at Leeds Ip Man Wing Chun, we have decided to offer free kung fu classes. Classes are for adults only and run on Monday’s and Wednesdays at Leeds and Bradford.
Our style of Kung Fu is Wing Chun – a style originally developed by a woman, as legend has it.
Wing Chun is a simple fighting system based around the principles of ecomony of motion and minimum movement.
In fighting terms this means simply to do the simplest thing to get the best result – ideally not to fight at all!
Wing Chun’s style is characterised by low kicks and fast hand techniques. It uses speed and efficiency over complicated techniques and has low knee and groin kicks and eye strikes to disable an opponent in the shortest possible time.
In training terms we use a number of drills to help you understand:
- Forms – body movements to help you digest the basic principles
- Drills – partner drills enabling reflex actions which become instinctive
- Street work – partner drills with street oriented attack and defence scenarios
- Chi Sau – sticky hand practice helps you gain familiarity with simultaneous defence and attack while under pressure.

Free Kung Fu Classes – What You’ll Learn
The first thing you’ll learn is how to stand. This sounds rather simple but when you are receiving pressure through your hands, the first thing to fail is generally the feet!
As you test each other with a little pressure, you’ll learn how to absorb more and more force, without losing your ground. This also has implications for delivering force too.
You’ll also learn some basic hand drills designed to install an automatic response in your body when given a stimulus.
