Looking for martial arts classes for adults in Leeds? There’s nothing more frustrating than attempting to learn a martial art, and turning up to a class full of kids!

Some Martial Arts schools even say they have adult classes and then fill up with juniors! It’s not the right learning environment for adults. That’s why here at Leeds Ip Man Wing Chun martial arts school in Leeds, we offer only adult classes.

Our classes are geared for adults because this was exactly the issue I faced a number of times throughout my own personal martial arts journey. I wanted a class where I could learn, not one catered toward children.

What Will I Learn?

Our classes are always accommodating of beginners so do come along if you can make a class. Sign up for details of the free beginners course here. We offer a free 7 session beginners course so you can try out our classes risk free!

The focus of the class will depend on the people attending and their relative experience. With a beginner’s course you will learn some basics such as drills, forms and Chi Sau basics to help develop your positions and reactions.

The class time is usually divided into five main topics covering:

  • Forms – empty hand patterns designed to help you build basic positions and understanding of the stance
  • Testing – applying force to positions and stance to help understanding of proper connection and relaxation
  • Drills – drills are performed with partners to help you react appropriately to applied contact and pressure
  • Chi Sau – chi sau or “sticky hands” allows you to “play” with an opponents arms. The goal is to land a hit or destabilise your opponent without allowing your positions/structure to allow the same to you.
  • Freeflow/street – bridges the gap between a friendly close contact drill and an actual attack coming in.
wing chun leeds

Wing Chun Kung Fu is a martial art and not a sport. Techniques are designed for fast self defence situations and involve counter attacks designed to quickly disable or incapacitate your opponent with a single move. As such, careful consideration is given initially to control to make sure everyone is safe to train before more force and aggression can be applied.

Our martial arts classes and Wing Chun as a style has two main principles: economy of motion and minimum movement.
