Looking for Wing Chun in Bradford? Our school opened in Bradford in 2010 and we have expanded to run classes in Leeds since August 2021 at Bramley Baths. The Bradford class runs on Wednesday evenings at Warrior Martial Arts Academy, Old Mill, Victoria Rd, Eccleshill, Bradford BD2 2BH. To join a class fill out the form here and reply to the email.
Wing Chun Kung Fu is a simple and effective concept based style of martial art based on economy of motion and minimum movement. There’s no high kicks or fancy moves in Wing Chun. The style is characterised by fast hands and strong legs, direct line strikes and low kicks.
One of the main benefits of Wing Chun is that you can learn at any age. Although classes are for adults only, (minimum age 16), there’s no upper limit to training age. You will however need a basic level of fitness to take part in classes.
Wing Chun Bradford – About Me
My name is Tim Halloran and I’m the chief instructor at Leeds Ip Man Wing Chun school. I first discovered Wing Chun in 1993 after meeting Sifu Colin Ward in Leeds and attending a class. 17 years later I opened my own school in Bradford in 2010. I was immediately fascinated by the light touch of my Sifu and the speed of his hands. As a huge Bruce Lee fan I had tried several other martial arts but was looking for something more aligned with Bruce’s skill, which I hadn’t seen up to then in any classes. When I found Wing Chun, I knew it had something different to offer and over the following 20+ years I fully immersed myself in studying Wing Chun.
2020 was a challenging time for martial arts schools and we, like many, were forced to close down. I opened Zoom sessions and taught throughout the week using online classes. It was a great opportunity to go through the system looking at the forms and their meanings, something which can easily be neglected when you have live training partners to play chi sau with. But it was also a time for reflection. I realised that there was more to the system than I knew.
A New Start
In June 2021 I contacted Daniel Parr, from Sheffield Wing Chun (Sung Wing Chun). He agreed that I could start training over there and I began learning again. This was quite a challenge because the style was so different to how I had learned Wing Chun. Daniel’s lineage is through Chu Shong Tin, whereas my previous lineage was through Ip Chun. There were quite a lot of differences and I was forced to abandon my old habits in order to learn something new. This was quite a psychological challenge, to say the least, but I found my understanding of the Wing Chun system changed dramatically over a year and half of training with Sung Wing Chun (to date).
